Reading Bags
I am going to start sending Jolly Readers home with students in their reading bags. When you see these coming home take a few nights to practice and when your child is able to read the book send it back to school and I will have them read it to me and then send the next book.Sound books can left at home as we are done adding sounds. It still doesn't hurt to practice sounds when you have time. We will be adding December words this week so be sure word rings are in your child's reading bag!
Thank You for all of your help!

Turkey Games for Math and Reading!
Here are a couple of games you can play with your child at home.

Place the word cards in a can and take turns pulling out words and reading them. If you can read the word you get to keep it, but if you can't read it you have to put the word back. If you pull a direction card follow the direction given and when the "Time to eat" card is drawn the game ends.

Give the next number game can be used in numerous ways; number recognition by playing memory, number sequencing (place 3-5 cards out and have them put the cards in order) or they can give you the number before or after the number they have picked.
I hope you enjoy and a big thank you to Karinda Wahls for letting me share these!

First Trimester Skills
Dear Parents,
We just wanted to send you a list of skills we are  working on the 1st trimester of school. Your child will be tested on these skills at the end of the trimester. You will receive a report card at that time so you know what your child has mastered and what your child still needs to work on. Thanks for all your support.
Math
·         Identifies numbers 1-20
·         Counts to 20
·         Identifies basic shapes (square, triangle, rectangle, circle, diamond, oval)
·         Recognizes and extends an ABAB and ABC pattern
·         Skip counts by 10
·         Counts objects with one-to-one correspondence (given a number can show that number using manipulatives)
Writing
·         Uses an acceptable pencil grip
·         Prints first name correctly
Reading
·         Identifies rhyming words
·         Identifies 90% of sounds of letters studied
·         Identifies sight words studied
·         Identifies 70% of letter names

The skills that are included on this list can and should be reviewed by you with your child at home.  We suggest working on the skills that are being taught that week and which are also included on our monthly calendar.  This will help your child to reinforce the skill!  If you have any questions please feel free to give us a call.

Classroom Halloween Party

Dear Parents
On October 31st our classroom will have our annual Halloween Party.  The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the multi-purpose room with songs, activities, and a little parade of each class. Please send your child to school in his/her Halloween costume. Please save Halloween make-up for the real thing. Later in the morning, the students will be taking their costumes off and putting them either in their book bags or a plastic bag that you have provided.  Please make sure your child has regular clothes to put on for the rest of the day.

In the afternoon, we will enjoy some spooky snacks and a fun Halloween video.

I formed party committees the other day based on alphabetical order. The following students will be on the Halloween committee and are responsible for bringing the following snacks the day of our party. If this does not work for you, let me know ASAP and we can try to rearrange. Please remember to bring snacks for 15 students.

Aiden – sausage
Amelia – cheese
Anya– salty treat
Austin – crackers
Bailey– sweet treat

Thank you for all your help!

Miss O’Brien

Reminder: No Halloween make-up and please bring clothes to wear for the remainder of the day. Thanks!
